Postseason General Information -  2025

What parents need to know about All-Stars

SW Portland Little League typically fields post season teams for both baseball and softball. Registration will be invite-only. Little League District 4 (of which SWPLL is a member) conducts post season tournaments each year for both baseball and softball.

Postseason Player Nominations. Postseason player nominations will be collected in early to mid-May. While nominations will be submitted by managers/head coaches, they should reflect input from all team coaches. We recommend that coaches check in with the families of players they plan to nominate to confirm their availability (see tentative tournament dates below) and to make them aware of the potential for selection.

Selection Criteria[1]:

  • Eligibility – To be eligible for tournament play, a candidate must meet four criteria: (1) league age verified based on original birth certificate, (2) participation in at least 8 regular-season games, (3) comes from a regular-season team that played at least 12 games, and (4) verified residence with approved documentation or school enrollment within league boundaries.
  • Availability – The candidate is available to practice with the team and play during the tournament. If the player will be away on vacation during some or all practices and games, the league may choose not to consider the player for selection.
  • Ability – Little League recommends that selections NOT be based primarily on statistical information. While statistical information could help form the basis for a voter’s opinion, ultimately a voter can vote for any eligible player, for any reason(s).
  •

Postseason Player Selection Meeting. The postseason selection meeting is scheduled for May 18 at 5:30pm. Each team is required to send at least one representative. During this meeting, managers and coaches will: (1) review player nominations, decide what teams can be fielded, and select players for All-Star teams; (2) determine whether there are enough players for an Honors team (baseball only), and (3) decide on coaching staff for all post-season teams.

Age Determination:  Baseball players must be between Little League age 8 and 12 to play post season. Please see the baseball age chart at the bottom of this page. Softball players must be between 9 and 12 to play post season. Please see the softball age chart at the bottom of this page to determine little league age.

Refunds: Refunds will be available only until uniforms are ordered.

Practices: Practices will start as soon as teams are assigned in late May working around regular season's team's practices.

Schedule: The estimated tournament schedule is below. Because of the of the dynamic nature of the game schedule, it is important that each team's schedule is flexible. Game information for upcoming bracket games is often not known until all results from the current bracket are reported.

Rules: Note, Tournament games are regulated by a different set of rules than regular season games. Many of these rules are covered in the back of the Little League rule book. Other special rules may be adopted by the tournament director.

All Star Requirement: Players selected for All Star teams must complete a tournament player verification form.  Part of that paperwork entails completing a proof of age and proof of residency or a school enrollment proof.

Coach/Manager Registration: If you would like to coach or manage this post season, please complete the volunteer registration during player registration.
