How to submit a news article

Having a news article published on our web site is straight forward and easy to do. It starts with an e-mail sent to the administrator of the site. See the contact information for the address.

The article must be formatted using the tag pairs discussed below. A discussion about each tag pair is also presented to help you understand how the data is used.

{headline}Text{/headline} - The text that appears inside this tag pair is displayed at the top of the story. This text appears in a different font to set it apart from the text of the article. This tag is required.

{author}Name{/author} - Your name or the name of the person who wrote the article. This tag is optional but strongly encouraged.

{expirey}Removal Date{/expirey} - This is the date (mm/dd/yyyy) that the article should be removed from the web site. The article will be removed the first time an article is added after this date. If not present, the article will stay until manually removed.

{link}Value{/link} - Value can be one of three different values. Each will cause a slightly different behavior when the link is selected from the article list. This tag is optional.

  • #file# - Causes the full content of the article to be displayed on the news page when the link is selected.
  • http://... - Use a valid URL when there is additional information at another web site. That saves you from retyping an article.
  • 'File name' - You can include one attachment to the e-mail. This should be a pdf or other valid binary image. Place the file name of the file here.
{content}Text{/content} - Type the complete text of your article here. It can contain as many lines as you need. Use basic HTML to format the text. A short synopsis will be pulled from the beginning of the content for display in the news summary.

The article will be reviewed by SWPLL before being posted on the web site. The league reserves the right to edit the contents of the article in order to prevent the data from damaging the web site. We also reserve the right not to post any article that has inappropriate content or content that is contrary to the purpose of our league.
