SWPLL encourages all umpires to attend annual training. It is a great way to get ready for the season. You will benefit and so will the teams and players for whom you umpire.
Experienced umpires looking to advance their skills to the next level should consider one of the Western Region schools or outreach clinics. Oregon Distrcit 7 sponsors a weekend at OSU. The dates for this year's clinic is March 23-25, 2012. There is a cost for this clinic and registration is required. Visit http://northwestumpire.blue17.org/ for more details.
District 4 offers a free umpire training program each year. First time umpires are required to complete the two-night class that covers rule book as well as field mechanics. This year's training will be offered at Tuality Middle School (Tigard) on March 19-20, 2012. See Flier for all the details.
Umpires who can't attend the training should notify their UIC as soon as you learn of this situation. Our league and others that are being scheduled by SWPLL should use umpires@swpll.org to leave a message.
For those who missed the District 4 2-night clinic, there will be a mini-clinic held at Whitford Middle school (weather permitting) on Saturday, April 21 at 2:30 PM. We will review angle-distance, proper positioning, leading runners, and releasing runners from 1st to 3rd.
Send e-mail to umpires@swpll.org if you have questions.
