Postseason General Information

Tournaments are events that happen both during and after the the regualr season. They are designed to create a fun play-off environment that allows teams to play many games in a short period of time.

Tournament games are regulated by a different set of rules than regular season games. Many of these rules are covered in the back of the rule book. Other special rules may be adopted by the tournament director.

There are some common characteristics of tournament play.

  1. The first part of the tournament is made up of games that are used to seed the teams into a ranked order. The better performing teams during this portion of the tournament, will be placed in better brackets. These games may also be called pool play.
  2. The second part of the tournament is based on the seeding teams receive from pool play. This is called bracket play. Teams will not know where or when they will play in this portion of the tournament until they are seeded.

Wins and losses determine how each team progresses through the remainder of the tournament.

Because of the of the dynamic nature of the game schedule, it is important that each team's schedule is flexible. Game information for upcoming bracket games is often times not known until all results from the current bracket are reported.

There may be different tournaments that occur during the season designed to help work on different player skills. These come and go each season. District 4 also conducts post season tournaments each year for both baseball and softball. These include:

  1. 11-12 All Stars - This is the tournament that many people associate with Little League. Winners progress through the District, State, Region, and ultimatly back to Williamsport for the Little League World Series.
  2. 10-11 All Stars - This is also a recognized Little League tournament. It is mostly played my larger leagues that have a wealth of talent. It give players a chance to experience post season play at a high level of competition.
  3. 11-12 Honors - This is a tournament that is run by District 4 using most, if not all, of the tournament rules for 11-12 All Stars. The tournament offers many youth an opportunity for post season play who would otherwise not have a chance for this unique experience.
  4. 9-10 All Stars - This is a Little League recognized tournament for younger players. It is used to build play-off experience at a high level of competition for following years.
  5. 9-10 Honors - This is a District 4 run tournament for younger players that did not make the All Star team. The experience of playing at this level is often times a great motivator for players as they become older and want to play in other post season tournaments.

Ask any Board Memeber about qualifications to play on any of these teams.
